A radiation resistant,halogen-free,low smoke generating and flame retardant EPDM insulating compound for cable was developed.The optimized formulation of compound was as follows:EPDM(Nordel IP 4770P) 100,silica 20,zinc oxide 5,stearic acid 1,magnesium hydroxide 120,zinc borate 10,anti-radiation agent Polymer A 25,paraffin oil 20,antioxidant MB 1,antioxidant RD 2,secondary curing agent TAIC 1,secondary curing agent HVA-2 0.5,curing agent DCP 3.The optimized compound possessed good flame retardant property,radiation resistance and physical properties,and it could be used as the insulating materials of the class 1E cables for nuclear power generatingstations.
