Abstract: |
Methyl vinyl silicone rubber / organic montmorillonite (MVQ / OMMT) nanocomposites were prepared by melt blending method. The effects of three kinds of organic modified montmorillonites with different hydrophilic properties on the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the composites were investigated. XRD and SEM results showed intercalated microstructure for nanocomposites, but dispersion of less hydrophilic organic montmorillonite, I.44P,is better than that for Bengel434 and I.30P in which agglomeration of OMMT occurs in the rubber matrix. The compatibility, dispersion, Mechanical properties and thermal stability of organic montmorillonite in silicone rubber going from I.44P to I.30P and Bengel434, respectively. When the content of OMMT reached 40 phr, the tensile strength and tear strength of the composites were increased by 270% and 980% respectively compared with pure rubber. |
