Abstract:
The tearing properties of short fiber/ silica/ natural rubber composites subjected to different tearing speeds were investigated. The results showed that the tearing speed had an important effect on the tearing strength. The tearing strength of the composites subjected to low tearing speed was much higher than that subjected to high tearing speed. Meanwhile, tearing region of the samples showed different features at different tearing speeds. As for silica-reinforced NR composite, tearing region showed typical “stick-slip” tear at medium-low speed, and “sawtooth” tearing at high speed. As for NR reinforced with short fiber and silica, tearing path apparently turned to “leg” of the sample at medium-low speed, and more tear energy consumed. At high tearing speed, tearing region also showed “sawtooth” tear. The tear path and strength were more stable than that at low tear speed.
