      In this paper, the chemical properties of pyrolysis carbon black (PCB) and N660 and their applications in the formula of inner-liner were compared. It is found that the iodine absorption numbers, total and external surface areas by nitrogen adsorption test method, DBP and CDBP absorption numbers of pyrolysis carbon black are higher than N660. But the ash content reaches up to 20.3%. The reinforcement effect for the inner-liner is affected by PCB’s properties. Compared with N660, the Payne effect of the PCB filled rubbers is more obviously, the stresses at 200% and 300% elongation are slightly higher, the tensile strength and elongation at break are reduced, the glass transition temperature is increased by 1.62 °C and loss factor is lower during the high temperature, air tightness remained essentially unchanged and the air impermeability is basically unchanged. These properties of composites are impacted by the PCB’s chemical properties and high content of ash. As an alternative filler, PCB has a potential use in tire inner liners.
