报告题目:Green Technology and Environmental Sustainablity-Rubber Industry

摘要:

Today the world is demanding ‘Green’ machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, automobiles with ever increasing efficiencies so how do rubber products specially the tyre and automobile rubber components affects this picture and where can this ‘Green’ demand lead the tyre, auto rubber component including automobile industry?  All these questions are currently budging about auto and tyre industry, especially when Governments starts getting involved, wanting to legislate and regulate tyre and vehicle performance. In this paper above questions are addressed through new Eco Systems, Design for Environment, Cleaner Production and Resource Optimisation.

Keywords: Sustainable Growth, Green Technology, Eco Systems, Design for Environment, Cleaner Production & Resource Optimisation.

 ACHIEVEMENTS

1.   Professional Achievements

·  Established a full fledged Research and Development institute (Hari Shankar Singhania Elastomer & Tyre Research Institute-HASETRI – An Institute recognized by Govt. of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and NABL accredited Institute), at Jaykaygram, Kankroli for carrying out Basic as well as applied research on Elastomers, tyre and other rubber products.  This institute is affiliated to different IITs and Universities for Ph.D/M.Tech programmes.

 ·  To fulfill the emerging needs of Indian Automobile Industry in the field of Vehicle Dynamics and advanced tyre mechanics, established “Raghupati Singhania Centre of Excellence for Tyre and Vehicle Dynamics” at IIT Chennai campus and an extension centre of HASETRI at Faridabad.

 ·  To fulfill the emerging need of automobile manufacturers and the tyre industry, a full fledged Tyre Testing Centre was established in 2006 at HASETRI, Jaykaygram Campus

 ·   A separate Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory and the Simulation and Predictive Technology Centre for the automobile and tyre industry was established in 2007 at HASETRI Faridabad campus.

 2.  Contribution to the Indian Rubber Industry

Under the leadership of Dr. R Mukhopadhyay, following Development project carried out at HASETRI-JK Tyre R& D Centre :

 a)  Development of all Steel Radial tyre Technology for Truck/Bus and fabric-steel tyres for Passenger/LCV for Indian as well as overseas markets.

b)   Development of Environment friendly technology for rubber industry including use of recycled material.

c)  Development of 100% Silica based tread compound for reduced rolling resistance, improved fuel consumption thereby helping in both pollution control (less emission) and reduction in depletion of natural resource (crude oil which is source of carbon black, predominantly used by tyre industry).

d)  Development of water based lube in place of solvent based for inner and outer lube in Tyre Industry.

e)   Energy conservation projects for tyre industry: JK Tyre has reduced total energy cost despite increase in production output through innovative approach.  Energy saving through intensive R&D approach, they have been considered as benchmark for energy cost in tyre industry in India.

f)   Simulation & predictive Testing in Tyre Design & Development:

i)   Developed experimental techniques to study Tyre-Vehicle-Road and handling characteristics covering Ride Dynamics, Impact Simulation, Handling characteristics, Instrument ride and handling test.

ii)  Tyre and road noise

iii)   Tyre Foot print mechanics

iv)   Non-destructive test development.

  g)  Various Development Projects on different rubber products for non tyre industry.

h)   Development of different National and International Standard Test Methods for Rubber and Allied Industries as a member of BIS - PCDC 13 and ISO TC45.

   3.  Academic Achievements (Education/Training/Research)

 (a)   Six Scientists at HASETRI received Ph.D. degree and five scientists are pursuing Ph.D programme under my guidance  from I.I.T, Kharagpur, IIT Madras, University of Calcutta in the field of Polymer Science & Rubber Technology.  Guided 60 students for  B.Tech/M.Tech programme from different Universities and IITs in the field of Rubber Science and Technology.
